Metro North Planting Project

Planting of Tree Wells at the Metro North Tarrytown Station
Planting with a Purpose

Tarrytown Environmental Advisory Council

In recent years we have seen an alarming decline in the number of pollinators and other beneficial insects. Individuals, businesses and municipalities can reverse this trend by creating habitat and food sources for these threatened populations. The planting of demonstration pollinator gardens with native plants is an effective way to educate the community, increase biodiversity and beautify our Towns and Villages.

Municipalities and businesses can take lead roles in this mission. By incorporating native plantings into landscape plans, companies which have high visibility and are frequented daily, can serve as role models for ecologically responsible landscaping practices.

We look forward to working with Metro North Tarrytown to expand the Pollinator Pathway here in the Village. As a vital transportation hub serving thousands of commuters a day and anchoring the community, MNR is in a unique position to promote good environmental stewardship by choosing to plant native wildflowers and shrubs on its premises. Pollinator plantings are highly visible, low cost, popular and a very effective way to engage residents and connect the community, especially children with the natural world.
